SXSWedu was a wonderful experience, we learned a lot and our session was great. I know we both feel so grateful that we were chosen to lead a session. Since SXSWedu was new to us, we were a little uncertain about how everything was going to go. The nerves were unnecessary though. There was a solid turnout, and people were really engaged with the session. A number of people commented how much they appreciated having a session on sex ed, and we talked about a range of topics. For myself and my colleague, we were able to do what we most enjoy doing, facilitating discussions. There's not much I enjoy as much as a quality discussion about sexuality education, and that's exactly what it was. There are sometimes challenges in this line of work, and the session energized me and affirmed that there are so many adults out there who want to support young people. (Which is an awesome feeling!) I believe that the more people can have discussions about sexuality, partnering with young people, and supporting parents/caregivers the better off we all will be. And this was one in what I hope are many conversations contributing that effort.
Here's a link to our slides and the handout from the presentation! I will be writing posts related to them in the next week or so.
